Sorry for pretty much disappearing after my last journal entry, guys. I went to China for three weeks. My devWatch KO'd me with its numbers when I saw it. Sigh, I'm only watching 200 people; I can't imagine what it's like for people who watch 1000+ artists. x'D

This is kind of embarrassing, but I stopped drawing for those three weeks in China. When I came back to the States, I was afraid I couldn't draw anymore, so I procrastinated for four days until I forced myself to start CGing again. I felt like the world shifted into its proper place again.
LOL, maybe it's not as noticeable to other people, but I been noticing a rather irritating change in my style in this time, in terms of facial structure. For a while, I notice that the facial structures have been getting more and more exaggerated-- "stretchy," if you will. It's more noticeable with the mouths:
(ie. From [link] to [link]
I was hesitant in letting it slip into my work, but it seems to have solidified a little when I started drawing again ([link]. I'm bothered that it looks like someone else's style, especially when I pair it with cell shading. :/ But it looks like a good start into another style investigation, so I can't complain too much~
I promise there's a point to these musings:
It's made me realize that if you love to draw, and you love where you are at the moment, DON'T STOP DRAWING. Not even if you're comfortable with it and want a break. Inversely, if your style's hit a plateau, maybe it doesn't hurt to stop what you've been doing to clear your mind and muscle memory for a while.

Also, Holle Kings was nominated for the "Most Original Art" category on the Smackjeeves Awards. x'D I think it was for the backgrounds I've been doing in chapter two. It's up against =blix-it's Toilet Genie and a lot of others with fun character art, so I can't really get my hopes up. Please check it out!

And here's the link to the rest of the categories. Do give it a look if you like webcomics. C: Off the top of my head, *LOOMinate's Vampire Fetish and ~Jazeki's Love, Annotated are up for nominations in different categories:

It feels so nifty to be a part of something~

OTAKON 2010!
I'll be roaming this year. But I tend to spend a lot of time at the Artist's Alley anyway, so all y'all artists better watch out~ >D By the way, does anyone know if there's anyone looking at portfolios or panels offering that at Otakon this year?
-
That's about all.

I noticed the change in your faces too. It's good that they reverted to their old look once you returned from Chinaland because if they're exaggerated too much, obviously they would move past the realm of merely being stylized (which is perfectly fine) and instead just look anatomically wonky. And I don't think your art is reminiscent of anybody else's style. :^ Especially your colors! The way you color is wonderfully unique and I wish I thought of it first. xD
Anyway, WELCOME BACK~
But I really love your 'don't ever stop drawing regardless where you are in life' statement. :) It's actually quite inspiring! That's true...for me, I feel when I stop drawing for a while I get really rusty! Dx hhaha I think that's a feeling a lot of artist get! So I sometimes force myself to even just draw birds outside or my pets everyday ha ha
but mygosh! you were in Chinaaaa! I hope you got some awesome inspiration for your art there!! :D
annddd that's so exciting about your awesome comic!! <33 ...but uh, how do I vote for it? :'D or can I even do that without an account there?
Have fun at Otakon, take lots of photos!! I wish I had money to go again this year :'D haha
LOL, sometimes you really do have to force yourself! I can get lazy if I procrastinate too long on my work. I remember editors coming to my school for a mini convention and telling us that finishing one page is nothing to be proud of--keep drawing! X'DD
I took a ton of pictures to remind me of stuff I need to draw, hahaha~! (I'm going to methodically sort them into my reference folder! So exciting! </wearysarcasm>)
Eee~ you'll vote for Holle Kings?
Right-o! :'[ I'll miss you and your awesome crew this year. You take photos of the conventions you go to in Canada, a'ight?
I definitely feel ya about the whole bits of new life being reflected in your art~! What I love to do is just watch the locals, especially the young people, and sort of place myself in their shoes: "Would I have turned out this way, if I had grown up here?"
True, true. x'D But it's always reassuring to hear someone else say it!
And changing your style isn't bad :3 It's good to branch out and develop other styles OuO Even me, being as crappy as I am, has about three styles lol!
AND if you stop drawing, I'd have to kick your ass XD Sorry for the language but you know I've been a huge supporter of you for a long time :3
Thanks, Nikoruuuu~
Your style is changing. It's fun to look at it and be able to see the points where a shift begins. And I know what you mean about the don't stop thing. I experience something similar with Oboe; if you stop playing for three weeks and pick it back up again, you almost have to relearn how to play. Your sound changes slightly and you have to work really hard to get the muscles back in shape (which I haven't been doing... ^_^
But I'd agree. A shift is not necessarily a bad thing. Unless it is. So watch it. If what you see bothers you, concentrate on changing it; if it doesn't just go with it (it seems strange that you can consiously modify something about your persona, but again, oboe's the same way)... Speaking of which, I should practice...
